Global Solidarity
As a local party, throughout our history, we have long seen international support and solidarity for other citizens of the world as important to our values of social justice and equality. We recognise the need to think globally as well as act locally on these issues and actively encourage our members and local supporters to get involved, donate and support international campaigns as an act of “Global Solidarity”.
This page is mainly for links for useful information, but we may also place statements below on current issues.

A joint statement from Sutton and Cheam Labour Party, Carshalton and Wallington Labour Party, and Sutton Labour Group of Councillors on the situation in Israel and Palestine – 28 October 2023.
We unreservedly condemn the recent appalling acts of violence by Hamas against innocent civilians in Israel. We further deplore the subsequent suffering and loss of life being endured by civilians in Gaza arising from the actions of the Israeli government.
We send our solidarity to all emergency and humanitarian workers seeking to alleviate suffering in the conflict and our deepest sympathy and condolences to all those who have lost loved ones – both Israelis and Palestinians.
While all nation states have a right to defend themselves within the parameters of international law, the targeting and attacking of civilians, taking of hostages, and imposition of collective punishments are war crimes. We condemn such actions.
We therefore call for the immediate and safe release of hostages held by Hamas and for all involved in the conflict to respect international law.
In view of the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza, we join the growing international calls for a ceasefire on all sides leading to renewed talks aimed at securing long term peace in the Middle East
We recognise the strongly held views across this current conflict and make it clear we strongly oppose and challenge the rise of Antisemitism and Islamophobia and set out our actions over that on our equalities page here.
